A PLACE ON THE VERANDAH
REFLECTING THE LANDSCAPE
It’s time to return (to having A Place on the Verandah). Now that the heat is fading, what landscape remains? Between September and November, the cultural programme returns to the villages of Valezim and Loriga to contribute to that reflection.
The cultural rentrée begins with Desver (Teatro do Vestido / Joana Craveiro), a documentary performance about a journey to an occupied country and its reality at those borders. A personal testimony of a visit to Palestine. A people who must not be forgotten and who represent the greatest genocide of our times.
At the end of September, João Rosas presents his first feature film, A Vida Luminosa, an example of how to turn things around when the abyss seems certain. Also in cinema, Nanni Moretti’s new film O Sol de Inverno will feature on the verandah as well. Two stories of reinvention, one Portuguese and one Italian, in periods that slow us down and make us reflect on the human condition.
By October, in Sabugueiro, the Serra provides inspiration and time for Joãozinho da Costa and Teresa Vaz (Bestiário) to explore paths for their new creations. AS ÁGUAS TAMBÉM CHORAM and TUVALU FORA DO TUVALU are the projects of these artists, set to premiere in 2026.
As the days grow shorter, Angélica Salvi transports us into a musical imagination between harp and electronics, in an intimate concert held in the beautiful religious heritage site, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary (Valezim).
Closing the first edition of A Place on the Verandah, and when all we want from the verandah is to see a white mantle on the mountaintop, the event La Nuit du Cirque arrives in Loriga with a programme of circus performances. This is the great night of circus, originating in France, landing in the mountains to present two shows: Rima by Alan Sencades and Alvin Young brings the Cyr Wheel to centre stage, while Gregarious from the company Soon Circus explores the competition between two friends—or are they athletes?

YEAR ZERO: (RE)BIRTH, LIVE, (RE)THINK
Everything has a beginning. A year zero that represents the moment when something starts. From emptiness come questions rather than answers, and curiosity drives us to experiment. This is the year zero of the cultural programme that Produção d’Fusão proposes to launch between Valezim and Loriga.
We start from the Verandah: a small space, suspended between the intimacy of the home and the vastness of the outside world. From this viewpoint, perspective shifts. We are no longer surrounded by walls, but open to the panoramic view of our surroundings. Let us now widen our vision. The mountain, a house, surrounded by windows and verandahs. Here, two natural verandahs rise: between Valezim and Loriga we embrace risk and uncertainty, extending an invitation to experimentation, where error is welcome and exploration essential. This is a time of openness, an exercise in seeing the territory and the community with renewed eyes—without hurry to move on, but with a desire to wander and admire.
In a territory accustomed to seeing people leave, we want to bring things closer. To invert the cycle and build a future rooted in proximity. For this, we have joined forces with the Cardoso de Moura Foundation, the Baldios of Loriga, the Valezim Parish Council, and several other local partners. Over the coming months, on a biweekly basis, we will present theatre, dance, music and cinema sessions.
And from the villages, we will make a cultural centre.
Programming for May – July now available.
