Rui Paixão
From Academia Contemporânea do Especitáculo – Escola de Artes (2011-2014) in Porto, Rui Paixão started out as a performer for the street arts and circus company RADAR 360°. At the age of 20, he creates his own performances and is distinguished in the “Revelation in Street Arts” category at the Imaginarius Street Art Festival (Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal) and receives the Revelation award at the Circada Festival (Seville, Spain), as well as as at the Castilla y León Theater Fair (Spain). He laid the exploratory bases for renewing the figure of the clown and has already toured Scotland (Edinburgh Fringe Festival), Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Brazil and France (Festival Cratère Surfaces in Alès). In 2019, he joins the Cirque du Soleil team for a new creation in Hangzhou (China) and becomes the first Portuguese artist-author to be hired by the circus company. Returning to Portugal a year later, he joined the cast of Romeu e Julieta (directed by John Romão) at Teatro Nacional D.Maria II (Lisbon). Creates the Dissolve video for the M.A.R. Festival. At the end of 2020, he presented a performance conference Irreducível ou apologia do monstro at Festival LEME. In 2021, he collaborates with the Portuguese director Ricardo Neves-Neves in the creation of Hamster Clown at Teatro Municipal São Luiz, in Lisbon. In 2023 is back in Cirque du Soleil in Orlando, US.
